Creating and bringing to life are one and the same, we are born in a new life, and live to create more life, love and beauty. Life is a creative endeavour.
Everything we reach for or want to achieve, spiritually and materially, stems from from our creative drive; It drives our appetite for novelty, for expression, for connection, experience, surprise, for conquest.
To the non-artists and the non-dreamers, the metaphysics of origination are poetic, idealistic and somewhat delusional. Yet the impetus to provide, procreate, prolong, prosper, promise, propel and overall move forward is the daily, deeply substantial and actualising nature of origination.
Letting this force drive means following our inspiration into trying anything, without reckoning what we believe to be possible. It means knowing - or never questioning - that this creative flow is bigger than we can comprehend and all we are to do is channel it into realness, as our contribution to the Creation.
Creative power is infinite, boundless, and diverse to extremes, and as such, however paradoxically, the nervous system of connection with others.
When we outgrow what is correct to seek what is right - or better, true - we commit ourselves to an unrelenting quest for excellence. This we can always seek and never find, for the path choses us and not us it.
Creation is a process, not a thought-through plan.
There is no foreseeing, no pre-conceiving, no organising in origination. Just like the sculpture is hidden in the rock, or the final touches change the entire outlook or a piece, we can’t know what is coming until it has come.
There is starting, setting ourselves in motion, following an impetus and trusting that this move will open up the next one.
More will be revealed.
We can’t do anything new unless we know what’s already done. Without practice, observation of what is out there, what we think is new is actually a mere spawn of memories we’ve stored subconsciously.
When instead we look into others work, contemplate and invest in working their topic too, we can find what works and doesn’t, where our unique touch can play in.
With that connection into other’s soul, we access our own - our own soul, and our own connection to the Creation and our ability to create too.
Novelty is always somewhat disturbing - the unfamiliar strikes. When novelty comes out of us, the discomfort can turn to terror, spark rejection, of our self or of the deed.
Our acquired tastes and choices are challenged, and who we thought we were is gone too. In our mind, the censor, the righteous judge can come to bring us down, kill the sprout.
Honouring our creativity means working through the fear, accepting what we’re inspired to do as a gift, however messy, and nurturing it until it holds its own, becomes lovable.
Creative acts walk blind towards a vision, more sensed than seen. At best, we feel a flow guiding us, sparks and obsessions driving our movements, an impetus to do this this odd way rather than any other way we’ve tried before.
We trust it, even though we don’t know what it’s going to end up being. We keep at it even though it feels obsessive and devoid of intention. It is hard work, all the more as we doubt all the way.
There is pain involved, in surrendering to it. We fear finding in ourselves traits we don’t know we can embrace.
Creative acts take on an infinite number of shapes, in their methods, outcomes, timelines and contexts, but what underlies any original contribution is the same force that underlies them all.
When we experience being the channel to divine creation, whether through giving birth, ideas, art, or solutions to the world, we access the meaning of all creation, the meaning of life, we catch a sight of cosmic truth.
The drive, inspiration, impetus to create are gifted to us along with life. They are not the privilege of a lucky few, nor make us special or different.
We are not the makers of the creation, even the part of it we technically contributed. We are blood cells carrying oxygen to the organs, we are doing a job millions of others do too, and the organism that counts us in is the real maker of magic.
Being in a position to achieve something worthwhile is a privilege. Gratitude for the opportunity is where the joy lies. Pride in the achievement only invites dissatisfaction and isolation.
