Flow

Clear the channels

The Situation

Stagnation is death. What is alive changes, grows, erodes, ages, it connects, reproduces. What is alive has cycles, it journeys until it can't.

Wanting things to stay the same is insane - yet somehow, a common predicament amongst humans, some form of collective hallucination.

When we allow things - ourselves, our feelings, our habits - to change, we find great relief. Tensions are released, weights are unloaded, movements gain amplitude, and we are free.

Going with the flow may seem idle, a bit of a hippie concept, but it really is a core life skill. Adapting to life as it is, navigating our circumstances, choosing to grow, are the secrets to a fulfilling life.

Changing Lines

No Changing Line

When we show up for life, however unprepared we feel, we are asked for willingness to face life's terms as they come, not just for a moment, but consistently.

We will be carried by the flow as long as we navigate rather than fight, and if we dare let ourselves be pulled out of chartered territory, we find that our possibilities are endless.

Line 1 - NO SUCH THING AS FAILURE

Mistakes are experience, an opportunity to adjust, learn, redirect our energies.

Only when we insist on repeating the same mistake do we fail, at not learning our lesson.

Being alive requires us to try many things in many ways and many times before we find our groove.

If we waste time dwelling on what went wrong, we only hinder the flow, delay arrival time and make it all more painful.

Line 2 - THE ACT OF DISILLUSION

Cosy stories may keep us warm, they never reward us past mild instant gratification.

In pursuit of our goals, we may well shatter a few illusions in exchange for the truth, let go of a wish or two in favour of very real gains, and trade flattery for actual respect and earnings.

Winning means letting go of the losing. Our dreams won’t come true until we go and live them.

Line 3 - SPACE FOR THE NEW

If we hang on to what we have acquired, as if life is about accumulation instead of flow, we just burden ourselves.

Not only it is cumbersome and makes our progress tedious and painful, it is unnatural.

We live in a course-corrective universe, the laws of nature we resist will eventually supersede anything we decide.

Whether destruction or robbery takes our burden away, or we crumble under it, eventually we will have to let go.

Line 4 - DROP YOUR GUARD

The biggest obstacle to being in the flow is fear, distrust. As long as we believe vigilance is how we survive, we can’t quite get carried by the flow.

Our guardedness, the armour we wear, keeps others at a distance, prevents healthy partnerships and takes away any chance at belonging.

Trust is restful and sharpening. Presence and readiness to take in the moment are a much more effective way to be alert.

Line 5 - NARROW IS A STATE OF MIND

Our imagination is bound by what we have already experienced, been exposed to, seen.

When we accept that there is more flowing and available than we care to notice, and open our minds, our possibility expands, at first in our imagination, in our hearts, then in our physical reality.

Sticking to a definition of freedom traps us. There is always more to the truth of our reality.

Line 6 - CIRCLE OF LIFE

We humans like to think we’re at the top of the food chain, but we can be eaten by things we can’t see and we return to the ground to feed the plants and the worms eventually.

Life is sacred and so is death, everything we endeavour, everything we keep and give eventually returns to the whole to transform again and again.

In a fit of control freakery or cynical egomania, we may conclude that our life is pointless, but it’s quite the opposite; our life has a point whether or not we try.
