Exposure

Get to the bottom of it

The Situation

The truth can be brutal, a shock to the system, a violation of privacy.

However all that truth hurts is our illusions, our misplaced hopes.

In the ‘comfort’ of delusion, secrets can fester, trick us into bad decisions, deplete our energies, feed an upcoming sense of betrayal and uselessness.

Only the ill-intended benefit from confusion and lies.

For the rest of us, the clarity on what is expected and known, the acceptance of our reality as it is, the discovery of the secrets of the universe, are freeing. They enable us to embrace our humanity in all its creative imperfection, ever changing and infinitely diverse reality.

When the truth is exposed, practical justice, compassion, and direction relieve us from the oppressions of dramatic mundanity and silent tragedy… If we are willing to crack open the vaults.

Changing Lines

No Changing Line

The courage to find out who we really are first exposes us to how little we can see from where stand.

When the curiosity finally trumps the comfort of the familiar, we acquire the independence of thought and action that make of truth an awakening.

Line 1 - SPOT THE WRONGS

Trying involves making mistakes, crossing lines, walking on toes, and being fooled. As much as these are not glorious moments, they are how we know where the lines are, how the rules work, and what we can differently next time.

Of course the being found out and the momentary humiliation may raise regret that we tried in the first place, but the lesson is well worth that price.

What is worse is not knowing and convincing our self we’re on the right track when we’re not.

Line 2 - APPROPRIATE SUBTLETY

The truth may be in the details or in the big picture, in the quality or in the quantity, in the intention or in the action.

By going all in with our pre-conceived ideas of what to expect, or what is right, we may miss the point entirely, or find ourselves so immersed and overwhelmed by what we uncover that we can no longer enjoy or see it for what it is.

This is no reason not to however… We need to start somewhere, and our ideas and enthusiasm are what we have to make a beginning.

Line 3 - UNQUESTIONED BELIEFS

We inherit a lot of our beliefs system, and for most part, there is so much more to experience and discover that we don’t feel the need to challenge what was given us with utmost assurance.

Then life gives us a mirror, circumstances in which we put into practice values we haven’t taken a chance to examine. We find ourselves defending outdated superstitions, narrow views of the world, systems already collapsing.

With a little grace, we now know better and can be grateful for the chance to be free of unsuspected shackles.

Line 4 - DON'T GIVE UP BEFORE THE MAGIC HAPPENS

In gnawing through to the truth, the end game, the core of the matter, we will always run into tougher terrain.

These obstacles are where the fearful and the undetermined may stop, at a loss. Only those who persist can get through.

The path to fulfilment is not an easy ride, it knows to keep going until it works.

Line 5 - THE TRUTH WILL SET YOUR FREE

Cracking open the truth can be painful. There is a wound involved, whether an old one we protect, or a dreaded one we pre-empt.

Either way, the layers of deception, confusion, armour and omission are guarding something. When we aim to air that something, we must be prepared for some form of resistance, rejection, or retaliation.

Where it hurts is always close to the truth. With prudence and an open-mind, we clean the wound and rip a reward.

Line 6 - IT’S RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU

Reality is surprisingly unhidden. We fantasise 'what’s what' based on what what we’ve been told should be, or what our absolutes and fancies hope for, and we forget to look, listen, and reckon.

Some pursue the obliviousness into serious hurt and rejection, pay a heavy price for feeling victimised or baffled by what’s been there all along, and denounce secrets that are common knowledge.

In hindsight, we often have known all along. Until then, we protect the story over our sanity, health and comfort.
