Disruption

Wake up

The Situation

Something is off, dreary, worn out. Habits, rituals and truths held for years don't quite work the way they did, but we don't remember knowing anything else, so we carry on. Until we can't take the lethargy, the doubt, the discomfort anymore.

The awakening can only be rude, a kick, because we don't know what's wrong, because everything is somewhat out of whack, because the reactions, raw, unprocessed emotions, will tell us more about our truth than all the well-oiled thinking we can think.

So here is a shock to the system, and panic, resistance, giggles, aversion.

We hold on to what matters most, what is sacred, and may be surprised by what is left.

Changing Lines

No Changing Line

Readiness for change is exciting, and terrifying. There is no “safe” way to go through a revolution.

Risks are to be taken, running scenarios is pointless as the possibilities and variables are infinite, and what our minds can foresee is always going to lack imagination.

So we stand firm in the fruits of our experience, answer our calling and expose our inner world... and more will be revealed.

Line 1 - DON'T SETTLE

The force of life doesn't quite satisfy itself with stagnation and idleness.

The will to live to the fullest, to step into what is possible over what just is, invites restlessness, a test for challenge, for questioning, for dissatisfaction with what doesn't work, what no longer serves its purpose.

Instead, it pushes us towards a little more thriving, daring, trying, creating, and as much as we'd like to forget that, creation involves destruction of what is being transformed.

Line 2 - NO SAFE WAY TO CHANGE

If we knew what it would be like to be on the other side, we'd be there already. We can't know until we are.

Between here and there, there is a void, a blurriness, unmet expectations, unforeseeable challenges and drainage of everything we've got, questioning of everything we know.

Yet, it is worth all our whiles, the wonder, the novelty, the glory of trying.

Line 3 - GET MOVING

Sudden change propels us into unfamiliar territory. New feelings, new values, new urgencies assail us and if we let them, paralyse us.

There is no right or wrong action, everything is game - everything we can stand by down the line. The only mistake here is to keep still.

As long as we go with our best guess in the moment, we won’t regret anything. Disruption challenges everything and everyone, the point is that nothing is a rule yet, and our actions will shape the new world order.

Line 4 - MIND THE AFTERSHOCK

Nothing keeps faults alive better than the lack of an alternative. When what’s wrong is all we know, it is our normal, and however dissatisfied we are with it, we are quicker to adjust than to seek a revolution.

So when the revolution does happen, and the corruption falls, we are left with a void, a scarily blank slate, no direction, no map, no grip or ground to walk on.

This is how we make room for the new, but until then, confusion reigns.

Line 5 - SNAP INTO PLACE

In the midst of agitation, seeming chaos, the sense of urgency, we are vulnerable to wariness, a fearful retreat into what was, or on the contrary, a rebellious attachment to the rejection of old order.

None of that is worthwhile, the disruption would only be destructive, and the opportunity to enter a new phase would be lost.

The full merit of disruption is to get us closer to our truth, our purpose, to adopt new ways of being, thinking, acting, and maybe above of all, making new choices that manifest our deeper values.

Line 6 - SEE IT COMING

Disruption is not a spawn of chaos, it is the tipping point of a trend we don’t quite make sense of until it does tip. There are warning signs, underlying currents, first adopters and patients zero.

With our focus on listening and watching for the trajectory of change, we can get on the wave and adapt, get in line with the flow, and maybe blaze a trail for or with our partners.

Then disruption doesn’t happen to us, it happens, and we seize the opportunity.
